Big Money Magic @ PantheaCon 2020

Big Money Magic at PantheaCon 2020

I doubt that money is the root of all evil, but the lack of it certainly feels like hell.

As long as people have wished for more than they have, practical wealth magic has offered solutions.

This class will be a broad survey of effective magical techniques to draw and keep money. Whether you’ve wanted to find buried treasure, win the lottery, get a raise, inherit a fortune, invest like a pro, sustain your lifestyle, or even beat the house in Vegas, learn powerful spells you won’t find anywhere else.

Big money magic is real.

I’d like to note that the turnout and the quality of the attendees were probably the best I’ve had to date; a wonderful conclusion to my PantheaCon experience.

Creativity, Magic and the Genius at ConVocation 2020

Seeking inspiration? Use magic to enhance your creativity!

The very word “inspiration” is rooted in the belief that invention is a force that comes from outside the self—even from the spirit world.

To the Romans, the word “genius” once meant a guiding spirit.

Several important grimoires provide guides to unite the initiate with a higher, perfected self or powerful spirit being capable of endowing formidable skills, knowledge, and power.

More immediate methods include scrying, tarot, bibliomancy, dream incubation, and many others.

In this class we will survey how magicians have used the spirit world for creativity and brainstorming in these and many other ways. Delve into historical practices and learn effective modern methods for cultivating your creativity.

Pawn Takes King: Political Magic

Thursday February 20th 10:30pm

Magic and politics have been intertwined throughout history. The metaphysics of magic are often expressed in political language or imagery, especially that of monarchy and feudalism. The Sforzas and Borgias launched a Renaissance arms race of astrological talismans. In America, slaves sought to magically destroy or gain power over their oppressors. Spiritualism had an essential role in the suffragist movement. Magic has played a role in modern political movements on both the Right and the Left. Discover how practitioners of magic are attempting to control elections and manipulate leaders in democratic governments today. Explore the rise of political radicalism in magic, and learn practical spellwork you can do to support the issues and people that matter most to you.

The Dark Arts: Curses, Binding, and Coercive Spells

Friday February 21st 4:00pm

People have been using magic to harm others since before recorded history, and practitioners have been busy inventing new and more ingenious spells to destroy people, places, and things in virtually every tradition. It’s controversial because it works. We’ll survey historical methods of cursing, binding, and dominating, and highlight effective methods for the contemporary sorcerer and witch. Learn how to make a Hoodoo poppet to cause suffering and incapacity, create a modern defixio from a lead sheet to cause illness, burn a black skull candle to drive someone insane, create a wax astrological talisman to foment strife, and more terrifyingly useful techniques. As the Weird Sisters said, “Double, double toil and trouble.” Let’s get cooking.

Spellbound: Love Magic Through the Ages

Spellbound: Love Magic Through the Ages @ ConVocation 2018

Love magic is arguably the most universally practiced form of practical magic. Different spiritual traditions approach love magic differently and reveal their worldview through the way they bring two (or more) people together.

It’s often said that all magic is love magic; that cosmic eros is the sacred principle which orders all reality. But taking the abstract and putting it into practice is often tricky, and ultimately none of that matters without results.

In this lecture we will survey the different goals and methods used in several traditions of magic and highlight those which have a reputation for strong results.

The Age of Black Magic: Step Twelve

Shrine of the White Lady

drugs

Introduction

Opiate addiction is an epidemic across America today. It’s destroyed many thousands of lives and often ended them. It’s thrown people into poverty, wrecked families, and corrupted countless souls. This is a terrible thing.

For some of us, it can also sometimes be a wonderful thing. Because this thing is also a her. And she is beautiful.

Many people were swayed by the Trump campaign with (entirely hollow) promises to provide treatment for addicts. Some of our opposition are themselves addicts. This vulnerability gives us wonderful opportunities for torment and slaughter.

One of the spookier gods I have worshipped over the years is The White Lady—the goddess of drug addiction and fatal overdose. By making sacrifices upon her altar, my enemies are ensnared by her seductions and annihilated in slow, humiliating, and agonizing ways. She seduces, she enslaves, she devours. She has no pity. If the grave has a mouth, she is its kiss.

And she really can’t wait to get to know you.

Background

dark-sgn-640x360

In the early 1990s I made contact with a pantheon of modern dark gods, and developed a magical system based upon it with two colleagues. We named it The Black Sun, or The Hallowed Circle Writ in Shadow. The pantheon had a supreme Queen and a number of Princesses who were her daughters, and an assortment of lesser divinities who were mostly representations of the things people feared or desired the most; or in some instances, both. The things which held the most power over people today.

Long before Neil Gaiman published American Gods, we three were inspired by Harlan Ellison’s The Whimper of Whipped Dogs and T.E.D.Klein’s Nadelman’s God to create an apocalyptic tribal paganism that leaned into complex sexual initiations and curses. Long before Clive Barker film Nightbreed and the term Otherkin was coined, we redefined magical practice as an inherently non-human phenomenon and sought to explore the limits of esoteric transhuman anatomy. Our ultimate objective was to produce radical magical effects, like transformations of matter and other suspensions of apparent natural law.

It was very powerful, but incredibly dangerous. We had some shocking successes with our experiments, some of which we regretted. The three of us moved on to other things, independently and amicably. Nothing we did was ever published or shared widely. Perhaps file all of this under the scary, crazy shit I was doing just after college.

One of the parts I was reluctant to abandon was my devotionary and practical work with The White Lady. She’s just too interesting and helpful.

Safety First

In case you were wondering, I don’t indulge in opioids or any other addictive drugs. The White Lady is quite predatory and it is important to make sure she doesn’t confuse you with lunch. If you plan on working with her, it might be a good idea for you to be fairly straight edge for a while—to the maximal possible extent. (And in spite of her name, she really does govern all addictive substances.)

It is actually possible to work with her to help break one’s addictions; you can siphon the willpower out of your curse targets and use it to nourish your own… but that’s not our main goal here.

In order to work with her somewhat safely, you have to self-initiate into The Black Sun System.

Simplified Self-Initiation Into the Black Sun System

DSCN9940_tn

Put three metal bowls on the floor. Put bones in one, seawater and a few drops of blood in the second, and raw pork and honey in the third. Light a black candle.

Draw a pentagram on the palm of your right hand with a red marker and a pentagram on your left hand with a black marker. Strip naked before the altar and sit on the floor. Place your left hand on your head and right hand below your feet.

Offer all that is between your hands to the Queen of All Darkness. Renounce your humanity, and implore her to be adopted by one of the Three Princesses of the Hollow in the Heart of the World. You will be visited by them in dreams and visions.

Once you do this, you can set up your shrine.

Building The Shrine

bass-fishing-hooks

Draw a picture of a beautiful maiden with long white hair and holding a thin red dagger in one hand and a fruit in the other. She has a Mona Lisa smile. Her eyes are black. Sometimes she is accompanied by a serpent or dragon. A Black Sun hangs in the sky like a wound in Heaven. She stands in an endless cemetery; leave the stones blank for now but leave room for names to possibly add later.

This is the icon for your Saint.

Her altar cloth is white. On it place a large apothecary jar, and fill it with things associated with addictions: razor blades, hypodermic needles, scorched spoons, even obituary clippings, and then fill it to the top with a mixture of white sugar, candies and rat poison. Right below the top of the jar, put thirteen fish hooks. To the right of the jar, place a white plate for offerings.

Do not situate this altar near where you sleep. Seriously. Always avert your gaze from the image when making offerings. She gets inside your head if you let her. You don’t want that. She’s really charming, in all the worst ways.

Make offerings to her on Thursdays or Fridays. The best offerings are fish sprinkled with or rolled in confectioner’s sugar.

She Is Always Full Of Need

clown3

Once you’ve cultivated a good relationship with her, you can baptize fish offerings with the names of your targets and gradually fill in names on the tombstones. If she gives permission, you can feast with her too.

I know this may seem a bit callous and gruesome, but there are beings far more disturbing than The White Lady in the Black Sun material. Maybe I’ll go into that later.

This first sample is free.

Just to get you hooked.

The Age of Black Magic: Step Eight

The Doorway To Hell Sigil

hermeschthonios

This is an important sigil to memorize and use for curses, and virtually any other attempt to access the netherworld of the dead and uncanny spirits.

It, and variations of it, appear on an extremely large number of katadesmoi and defixios. I’ve concluded that contextually it is the symbol of the “Terrestrial” Hermes of the Orphic Hymns, and more pertinently helps open a gateway into the realms of the dead.

It may also permit access to celestial realms as well, as variations of it appear on a sizable quantity of pentacles from the Greater Key of Solomon and other ritual objects in the Solomonic tradition. Many people believe the number 8 is associated with planetary Mercury, though this is debatable and not necessarily compatible with the pentacles. I speculate that it is a more general symbol for Divine Hermes, and assists in other forms of Divine communication. This is less well established, however.

In our context, it can be used to gain the attention of netherworld entities and a channel through which communication or miasma can flow. It is a wound you open into the darkest realms below.

So, let’s call it the Doorway To Hell Sigil.

It should be inscribed on all applicable objects used when attempting to constrain, harm and destroy the Trump Administration.

The Mighty Winds of Zizaubio

pleiades_ritual_1-1

The following is a ritual I use a month or so before I travel by air. It requires the use of a Pleiades Ring from the Quindecim Stellis and any other Pleiades talismans you might have handy. It controls winds so that storms are blown out of the path of the airplane or other vehicles I and friends may use to get wherever and back. It’s very powerful and effective.

The text is a modification of material from the Greek Magical Papyri and the Quindecim Stellis and my own labors. Someone had been asking for a ritual which evoked the seven sisters by name, and in fact I’ve been using this for many years by now.

For the election the Moon should be applying to conjoin or making an amicable aspect to Alcyone and the latter should be on the Ascendant. Try to keep the Moon at least eight degrees off the Ascendant if you can.

The Ring of the Pleiades from the Quindecim Stellis should be anointed and worn and the hand held aloft. Additionally any other talismans should be exposed or held in the other hand as appropriate and any lamps of the Pleiades should be lit. Frankincense grains should be burned as a suffumigation with or without fennel.

Zizaubio is the spelling from the Greek Magical Papyri but it’s pronounced Zeezowbeaw, and I include both in the text.

O, mighty and beautiful star cluster of the Pleiades, O Seven Sisters, I call upon thee in your names of Alcyone, Maia, Taygete, Electra, Celoeno, Sterope and Merope, that you swiftly raise great winds so that storms, delays, confusions and troubles are sent far away from N.N. etc in all of our travels–and may our homes likewise be protected while we travel for our safe return.

I ask this here and now in the name of the angel of my nativity N. and my rights and privileges as [initiatory hierarchy stuff] and an initiate of thy court.

I call upon you, Holy Angel Zeezowbeaw (ZIZAUBIO) from the company of the Pleiades to whom you are subordinate and serve for all things, for whatever she may command you: you great indestructible fire-breathing one; who casts the tether of Heaven, through which tether all things turn upon Earth.

And also I call upon you; yourselves, who are angels who have been stationed beneath Zeezowbeaw’s power. Hence I call upon you all–that you come quickly in this hour to protect us and facilitate all of our journeys, along all of our respective paths.

I conjure you O lord who rises above the Earth of the whole cosmic region, by the One ruling the whole inhabited world and the benefactor of all.

Hence I call upon you in this hour and ask that you protect us and speed us safely and happily along to our destinations, O Angel Zeezowbeaw.

May this talisman and ring I wear forever and ever protect and increase the light of the eyes, raise winds, gather dæmones and spirits of the dead to come and speak, and make me know of secret and hidden things; at my will, at my command, and at my desire.

I ask this in the name of the Seven Sisters of the Pleiades; Alcyone, Maia, Taygete, Electra, Celoeno, Sterope and Merope, and in the name of the Angel of the Pleiades, Zeezowbeaw; and all of the spirits of the Pleiades.

AMEN.

PantheaCon 2017

On Saturday, February 18th at 1:30pm–

Eat Me: Magical Recipes in Medieval Astrological Magic

Though better known for the creation of talismans, medieval and Renaissance astrological magic texts contain further recipes and instructions. Many are intended to be consumed, buried, or burned, with numerous purposes and means of creation. Yet they all point towards a forgotten view of the universe and magic. From counting olive pips to cure illnesses to the creation of wax talismans or incense pills for evocation and influence, such mysteries depend on the philosophies of Al Kindi and his contemporaries. Explore how the outlook of the ancients can enhance our spiritual practices.

ConVocation 2017

On Thursday, February 23rd at 8:30pm–

DIY Talismans

Astrological talismans from the Scholastic Image Magic tradition often seem as challenging to make as they are powerful. After electing the window of time in which a talisman can be created, one must confect incenses, select appropriate sigils, and obtain tools and materials for the talismans. We will discuss how to create a talismanic laboratory, the process of practical considerations including choosing the best combinations, knowing which substitutions do and don’t work, and time and money saving strategies. Take the theory of talismans into real life creations and applications.

On Friday, February 24th at 4:00pm–

About Time: Basic Chart Calculation

Invaluable to numerous systems of magic, the astrological horoscope is a Swiss army knife for divination, classical medicine, and much else. One of the most advanced achievements of the ancient world, the horoscope can often be perplexing for beginners. This class will focus on the basics of erecting a horoscope chart. We will attempt to demystify the process and render the math easy, while also explaining the essentials of its parts, some of history of its development, and the rationale of the chart from the traditional (pre-1750 AD) perspective.

On Saturday February 25th at 4:00pm–

Fearless Magical Protection

It’s a jungle out there. In most magical systems one of the first things you are taught is basic protection against spiritual attacks, and for good reason. A magical life is a perilous one at times. As you become more proficient, the need for protection grows and takes new forms. This class will survey practical methods of protection from a variety of spiritual systems and methodologies. Some of these techniques are unpublished anywhere and likely to be unfamiliar, but have proven very effective. Magical protection will help secure your success.

The Secret Purpose of Magic

I’m going to spare you the labor of kneeling before a mystic guru for decades, joining secret societies and putting up with their drama, and quite possibly reincarnating a few thousand times in order to learn this nugget of wisdom.

I’m cheating slightly by letting you in on the secret, but I’ve been known to bend the rules before.

The process of attaining proficiency in magic is traumatic and shocking. For some, their brains came out wrong at birth and the psychic censor works horribly. Others take strange drugs. Some experience physical traumas, like being struck by lightning or being hit by speeding vehicles. A few have near-death experiences and come back changed. Others put themselves through exteme mental contortions that for variable periods render the initiate batshit insane.

You can’t think like a normal human being, a descendant of mutated apes, and do superhuman things. So under most circumstances your mind– and by extension your spirit– has to change. A lot.

It’s about plasticity. Spiritual plasticity mirroring the neuroplasticity; as above so below. Every time a magician alters their mental state past the breaking point, it’s like having a stroke. After the shock to the system subsides, the magician has to mend and rewire their consciousness like a person learning to walk after a brain injury. This happens over and over and in numerous ways. New abilities and strangeness are acquired along the road.

It’s also about strength. You need to damage muscles through strain in order to rebuild them stronger. The most basic lesson of athleticism.

That plasticity and strength are not for their own sakes, however.

It’s to prepare us for retaining our memories and personality through the death process. Brain death is almost exactly like having thousands of strokes all at once. Instead of oxygen being cut off from one part of the brain and killing a portion, oxygen is cut off from the entire. This is the most extreme trauma a person can experience without uncommon supernatural intervention.

Most people lose their internal coherence at some point after death. It’s no secret that ghostly spirits do not think or behave quite like living people, and some appear to have lost memories and attributes while whooshing about the eerie void. Yet they retain enough that when called up by various means, they have knowledge that only those particular people could possess. In many instances the contact is with an echo of a person or even a trickster spirit, but in others it appears to be a forgetful and confused version of a discarnate human being. (Though sometimes they’re just faking confusion– but that’s a whole different topic.)

When people transmigrate –and I suspect that is a real phenomenon if it doesn’t necessarily happen to everyone– the process of embedding spirit in flesh is similarly disorienting and traumatic. The result is that hardly anyone is born retaining clear memories of their former lives, of spiritual realms– and one’s personality also changes in various ways.

People who have trained themselves to recover from dramatic changes in consciousness, shock, and systemic injury eventually can break that cycle and retain a clear mind, memory, and a stable personality whether they choose to remain in the spiritual realms or return to corporeal existence.

Magic helps us solve problems in many ways. But many things exist which can solve most of those problems which don’t require such extreme and unusual activities. What makes magic unique is that it gradually (and often very uncomfortably) prepares us for a more advanced existence as a spirit.
